On 27 July 2023, the People’s Government of Pingshan District and Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical (Group) Co., Ltd. signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement in Shanghai.

According to the agreement, both sides will engage in long-term and comprehensive strategic cooperation, gathering innovative resources, cultivating and strengthening the biopharmaceutical, high-end medical device and healthcare industries, promoting innovative R&D, incubation and industrial empowerment, and driving the high-quality development of Shenzhen’s biopharmaceutical industry.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is a key region for China’s biopharmaceutical industry. Biopharmaceuticals have become a strategic pillar industry in the Greater Bay Area. As one of the first national biopharmaceutical industry bases, Shenzhen is accelerating the establishment of a research and industrialization system that is led by enterprises and integrates industry, academia and research. It aims to develop high-end medical devices and innovative medicines, striving to make the biopharmaceutical industry a new driving force for economic growth, as well as attracting investment and talents.

Pingshan is a core area for Shenzhen’s biotechnology industry development. It hosts the first national biotechnology industry base in China and is positioned as the most important platform and industrial space for the biopharmaceutical industry in Shenzhen.

“With vast opportunities for developing the biopharmaceutical industry in Pingshan, we are looking forward to participating in a new phase of industrial innovation and development here,” said Wu Yifang, chairman of Fosun Pharma. He expressed full confidence, citing Pingshan’s advantages in industrial infrastructure, business environment and policy support.
