Dialog Between Guo Guangchang and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau:Canadian Prime Minister’s Dream for Helping
Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada attended the G20 event in September and his popularity swept along social media in China.
Fosun is an important stop for Prime Minister Trudeau’s visit in China. He met Guo Guangchang, Chairman of Fosun Group and Daniel Lamarre, CEO of Cirque du Soleil to discuss the business cooperation between China and Canada. Wang Qunbin, President of Fosun Group, Li Haifeng, Vice President, Tang Bin, one of Fosun's global partners attended the meeting.
Prime Minister Trudeau’s relation with China can be dated back to his father Pierre Trudeau, who established formal diplomatic relations with China in 1970 during his term as Canadian Prime Minister, which has unfolded a new era.
China-Canada Cooperative Opportunities in the Eyes of Thoughtful Leaders
Justin Trudeau:
More and better opportunities are awaiting us for sure.
Long ago, my father started the political relationship between Canada and China. Four decades later, politics is still important, but there’re more in terms of economic, trading and commercial ties for us to develop more economic and trading cooperation. We’re very different in national conditions, but we’re highly complementary, therefore more and better opportunities are awaiting us for sure.
China has witnessed very successful economic growth over the past decades. Two or three hundred million people become middle class. That’s brilliant. After they become the middle class, they are more senior consumers who will pursue high quality products.
Canada is home to open-minded and wise people, as well as high quality food, hi-tech, etc. in many sectors. We can align the Canadian brands with the demand for high quality products by Chinese rising middle class by stronger cooperation.
What we discussed just now are very consistent. One of the priorities for the Canadian government is to benefit the middle class. We are fully aware of the core strength of the middle class in the economy. When they are confident of their career, family including the future growth of children, our country can grow.
I firmly believe that trade and globalization can and will certainly promote and propel our economic growth. We hope Fosun can work with Canada not only in culture, but also more investments and cooperation in broader scopes.
Guo Guangchang:
Fosun has many opportunities to cooperate with Canada for sure.
Mr. Prime Minister mentioned two to three hundred million people in middle class, but I believe there’ll be five to six hundred million middle class consumers. Therefore, Fosun’s vision is to hinge on the family needs particularly in three areas, i.e. wealth, health and happiness by providing them with a one-stop comprehensive solution. As said by his excellency Prime Minister, Fosun has many opportunities to cooperate with Canada for sure.
First, Fosun is very proud to invest in Canada’s national treasure – Cirque du Soleil. We’re now in sound cooperation and Cirque du Soleil will also launch many projects in China going forward. We hope this will strengthen our bilateral cultural communications. Next, there’re many opportunities in resources, such as energy, mining and agriculture. Third, Canada boasts strong advantages and achievements in hi-tech, healthcare and pharmaceutical researches. We’d like to join closer hands with Canada. Fourth, it’s a pity that Club Med hasn’t operated any resort in Canada yet, and we hope we can find some projects in line with ClubMed style for collaboration.
Wang Qunbin:
“Wealth” and “Health” will bear fruits in Canada for sure.
Fosun always attaches importance to opportunities in Canada. Fosun’s cooperation with Cirque du Soleil is Fosun’s “happiness” business entering the Canadian market in the first place. Then, “health” will also bear some fruits in Canada for sure, especially those Canadian companies specialized in biotech and healthcare.
In addition, Fosun has another important business line, i.e. “wealth”. When there’s any opportunity, we also hope we can help Canadian middle class invest in the Chinese market to share the return of investment on China’s growth.
