The “Dual Carbon Goal Activists Conference 2023” was organized and held by Southern Weekly in Beijing on 7 December 2023. The event focused on companies’ progress in the implementation of their strategies for achieving the dual goal of carbon emission peak and carbon neutrality (“dual carbon goal”) and identified the leaders and innovators in the dual-carbon goal strategy through a more in-depth and extensive research. Fosun International was rated as one of the “Top 10 Dual Carbon Goal Activists”.

Fosun has been responding to the Chinese government’s call for society to attain the “dual carbon goal” as part of the national development strategy. It does it part in achieving that goal and has made a commitment to the society that it will strive to achieve carbon emission peak by 2028 and carbon neutrality by 2050. In 2022, Fosun formally established a carbon neutrality roadmap to implement carbon neutrality work. In April 2023, Fosun issued its first Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures report (the “TCFD Report”), demonstrating its commitment to climate action to the international community, and calling on all sectors to work together to promote carbon neutrality.

Fosun also established a Carbon Neutrality Committee and a Carbon Neutrality Working Group, with carbon neutrality led and progressed by the Environment, Health, Safety & Quality (EHSQ) Department. The Carbon Neutrality Committee, composed of directors of Fosun International and directors of member companies, is responsible for supervising and promoting the overall carbon neutrality strategy, and regulating and monitoring the progress. The committee also supervises Fosun managing climate-related risks and opportunities. Fosun has also added the indicator of “carbon neutrality management” to the ESG management performance appraisal mechanism of responsible persons of each business segment of the Group, with the aim of promoting further implementation and enforcement of carbon-neutral management across the Group.

In order to further push forward Fosun’s 2050 “Carbon Neutrality Goal”, the Carbon Neutrality Committee and the Carbon Neutrality Working Group further refined the Group’s carbon neutrality goal, requiring each member company to set its own carbon neutrality goal based on Fosun’s carbon neutrality goal. The Group will adjust its goal in a timely manner in light of the changes in the business landscape to make it more realistic and challenging.

Looking ahead, Fosun will continue to proactively shoulder more social responsibility, join hands with its member companies in facilitating the implementation of the ESG strategies, and ensure the Group’s sustainable development through its work on attaining the dual goal of carbon emission peak and carbon neutrality and on saving energy and reducing consumption of resources.
