Millennium bcp is considered a European climate leader by the Financial Times and Statista. For the third consecutive year, Millennium is included the “Europe’s Climate Leaders 2023” ranking prepared by the two institutions, with an overall score of 62.2.

The ranking was developed by the leading financial newspaper and by Statista - a German company specializing in market and consumer research - to highlight European companies that have made the most progress in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

“Millennium bcp is committed to being a protagonist in the energy transition process through its policies and actions and, as is clearly evident in our recently-published sustainability report, this commitment is being fulfilled and has received strong support from the main stakeholders of the bank”, Miguel Maya, CEO of Millennium bcp, said. “There is still much to be done, but receiving this distinction for the third consecutive year is an excellent incentive. In 2023, we will continue on a path that allows us to promote decarbonized and resilient models of economic development.”

In 2022, Millennium bcp reduced GHG emissions by 86% compared to 2021. The bank will continue with this effort, with initiatives like the installation earlier this year of a second solar photovoltaic plant at the TagusPark campus, with 1,834 photovoltaic modules. This new plant will supply electricity to Buildings 1 to 8 and will avoid the annual release of 275 tCO2 into the atmosphere, equivalent to capturing CO2 by 12,491 trees.

In Poland, Bank Millennium, 50.1% owned by Millennium bcp, is included in the ranking this year for the first time. In 2022, Bank Millennium was able to reduce GHG emissions by 59.7% compared to 2020, thanks to more efficient management of resources, as well as the purchase of 100% renewable electricity.

A total of 500 Climate Leaders were selected for the Financial Times' independent ranking, out of thousands of companies committed to significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The FT and Statista ranking is the result of a comprehensive analysis to identify companies that clearly stood out in reducing their main GHG emissions. In addition to the performance of companies in reducing the intensity of their Scope 1 (direct emissions) and Scope 2 (indirect emissions), this year, for the first time, the transparency of Scope 3 (other indirect emissions) was also analyzed.
