Hospital da Luz receives European Award for Private Hospitals
Hospital da Luz was the only Portuguese institution awarded in this initiative by the European Union of Private Hospitals and APHP
June 28, 2022 - Hospital da Luz, together with its Simulation Centre, received the award in the category of “Excellence in the Workplace”, in the first edition of the European Private Hospitals Award, delivered last June 23, at Páteo da Galé, in Lisbon, organized by the European Union of Private Hospitals (UEHP) and the Portuguese Association of Private Hospitals (APHP). The initiative, under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, aimed to “showcase the best that is done in Europe in the health private sector”, with other hospitals also being distinguished, namely German, Spanish and Italian, for the health services provided in 2021-2022.
The clinical Simulation Centre of Hospital da Luz Learning Health – the Luz Saúde company dedicated to training, research and innovation activities – is located at Hospital da Luz Lisboa, and is the largest in Portugal and one of the largest in Europe, offering over 100 simulators and manikins with the latest technology, for the training of existing and future health professionals. The international jury distinguished Hospital da Luz for the investment on “the promotion of better conditions and working environment, with proven results in the optimization of organizational performance and in the collaboration between professionals”.
The first edition of these awards was highly participated, with around 70 applications from 10 European countries: Germany, Austria, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Poland, Romania and Switzerland. European private health units were distinguished as having the best performance in seven categories:
- Best prevention initiative;
- Best initiative focused on the patient;
- Greenest hospital in Europe;
- Clinical innovation model;
- Value-based health most advanced hospital;
- Excellence in the workplace;
- News of the year coverage.
Besides the award in the category of “Excellence in the workplace”, Hospital da Luz was finalist and classified as one of the ‘top 3’ in the categories of “Value-based health most advanced hospital” and “Best initiative focused on the patient”.
“These awards are the showcasing of excellence in European private hospitals”, highlighted Óscar Gaspar, the president of APHP. At the ceremony, a special award was also bestowed to Polish and Romanian hospitals, for their role in the humanitarian support provided to the wave of refugees from the Ukraine war.
