On Aug 18^th, Fosun Pharma held a ceremony for Fosun Foundation to donate antimalarial medicines to Zambia Ministry of Health during High-Level Meeting on China-Africa Health Cooperation and 3^rd Beijing Health Conference. Mr. Chen Qiyu, Director of Fosun Foundation andChairman of Fosun Pharma donated US$240,000 market value of artemisinin-based antimalarial medicines to Zambia Ministry of Health on behalf of Fosun Pharma. Dr. Chitalu Chilufya, Minister of Health Zambia, Madam Joy Phumaphi, Executive Secretary of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance, Mr. Steve Davis, CEO of Path, Mr. George Jagoe, Executive Vice President of Medicines for Malaria Venture, Dr. Alex Wu, Deputy Director of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Beijing office, Mr. Wen Deyong, Vice President of Fosun Pharma and Mr. Yifei Zhang, Secretary General of Fosun Foundation attended the ceremony and witnessed the donation.

The medicines donated by Fosun Pharma will be used in the malaria prevention and research project of Zambia Ministry of Health to explore possible solutions to effectively reduce the incidence of malaria in malaria areas in Africa.

Dr. Chitalu Chilufya said, “Zambia has been using injectable artesunate as a first-line drug for the treatment of severe malaria since 2014, and has attached great importance to malaria prevention and control. In recent years, along with the continuous efforts of Zambian government and the international community in malaria prevention and control, the malaria incidence rate and mortality rate have dropped significantly."
