This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Portugal and China. The Inaugural Portuguese-Chinese Gala and Business Merit Awards 2014 Award Ceremony was held on October 30 in Lisbon. Fosun International has always been attaching great importance in Portuguese market. With its explorative and its innovative spirit, Fosun International received the “Innovative Enterprise” Business Merit Award after having gone through adjudication from all members of Portuguese-Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCILC).

CCILC has been committed to promoting economic and trade relations between China and Portugal in the past 35 years. In recognition of enterprises that have contributed to fostering economic and trade relations between China and Portugal, CCILC hosted this grand award gala dinner receiption. CCILC said, “China is undoubtedly the top source of foreign investments for Portugal in recent years, while Fosun International is certainly the star investor for 2014 among others.”

As a leading investment group taking roots in China with a global foothold, Fosun has been proactively prospecting various investment opportunities in the Portugal market. In May 2014, Fosun International succeeded in its acquisition of an 80% interest in Fidelidade, Multicare and Cares under Caixa Seguros e Saúde, SGPS, S.A., Portugal’s largest insurance group, for an aggregate consideration of approximately EUR1.038 billion. Just a month after completion of this acquisition, Fosun International acquired interests in Redes Energéticas Nacionais SGPS, SA(REN), a Portuguese power grid company. Fosun International has further expanded into the healthcare sector, from its established footholds in the insurance and utilities sectors. In October 2014, Fosun International, through Fidelidade, acquired a 96.07% interest in the Portuguese healthcare service provider Espírito Santo Saúde – SGPS, SA (ESS) for an aggregate consideration of EUR459.83 million. Fosun International, with its outstanding achievements, is a distinguished winner of this award.
